Are you there God? It's Me Shannon....

It is the beginning of the Lenten season, 40 days til Easter! Last year I gave up gossip and complaining (not perfect but awareness of behavior is a powerful thing!) - I also committed to being a nicer spouse (also not perfect, but humbled by the wonderful results...peace and harmony should never be underrated!). This season I will continue with last year's "sacrifices" but will add no soda (I may be the first person to die from lack of Diet Pepsi!!) and I will save $2.50 per day by NOT going to Izzy's bagels every morning...40 days X $2.50 = $100! That $100 will go to American Red Cross for Haiti...bagels and Diet Pepsi don't seem like much of a sacrifice now. In related news...I've decided to read the Bible. I'm 42 and have never done it. Church going, Christian girl...I should be ashamed. I guess I've been intimidated because it's so much to grasp. I've seen workbooks and websites from varying denominations offering help to read the Bible in 365 days...how is that possible to do and really absorb the Message? So on the advise of a great guy, PJ, I'm going to concentrate on Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for the next year. I hope to be inspired, educated and spiritually enlightened...is that too much to hope for?

  1. Just got to read this. I read the Bible and then read the Message. I also found reading my daughters "Godzgirl" Bible made my big-girl Bible a bit more easy to understand. I agree, getting through the Old Testament is scary. Can't believe I did it! I'll admit, I also backed up my readings with CDs from Costco. Still keep Corinthians in my car. Love Acts and Psalms. Proverbs are poetic and then there's Job. Which after reading your week's recent blog:) Job puts things I stress over into God's view! When I search for HIM he is right there. You've got me thinking that I need to put my DQT back into my morning. Daily Quiet Time, just me and The Word. Maybe, just maybe, I'd find my keys and have my wits about me if I opened my heart --and my BIBLE again!!! And about talking? I'm glad you and I got to talk on Friday and just have a human minute at work with you. You know, I do put you on a pedestal! Whether you feel comfortable there, you just amaze me with all that you do! I love you, Shan! Here's to another week.
